What We Do

Culinary I: Foundations of Cooking Program

Students with little to no experience in the kitchen will engage in hands-on training and support in order to gain the skills necessary for an entry-level kitchen professional. In addition to other real-world opportunities, the culminating project is a pop-up catering service at P:ear–an organization creatively mentoring homeless youth.

Culinary II: Advanced Culinary Program

Students who have beginning kitchen skills will take it up several notches through culinary training and vocational exercises. Additionally, students will gain an understanding of topics such as seasonality and nutrition as it relates to their training. They will use their new skills and knowledge to design and cater a pop-up dinner at a local senior center.

Box Lunches

Our Box Lunch is ideal for weekly team lunches, monthly meetings, professional development sessions, etc. Each box lunch comes with a sandwich (or salad), chips, and a freshly baked cookie. It also directly supports our work—teaching opportunity Portland youth culinary skills and helping them obtain jobs in the hospitality field. Awesome, right?

Catering

B&SA catering is as elegant or as rustic as you want. We cater for businesses, parties, special events, and whatever else you can dream up. Our food is locally sourced, and we absolutely love to cater both small and large events. In addition, this program directly supports our mission and provides opportunities for our interns to gain résumé-building experience.

Work Source Program

The B&SA Worksource program is an integrated approach to developing career skills for opportunity youth interested in the hospitality field. Interns work in teams to accomplish goals, build confidence, and trouble shoot their way through challenges. B&SA offers real life catering ventures to attain resume experience, connections to local restaurants to practice professional interviewing skills, culminating in an off site catering gig, cooking dinner for a senior center or other committed partners.
